Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of the PaperWeight app. Using the app means you accept them.

The app

PaperWeight is a paid app with a one-time price on the App Store. There is nothing to buy inside it, no subscription, and no account. You may use it on the devices associated with your own Apple Account, as permitted by Apple's App Store terms.

Your purchase is made through Apple, not us. Pricing, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple under its App Store terms; we cannot issue refunds ourselves.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. Paying the price buys you a licence to use it, not ownership of it. You may not redistribute it, resell it, or attempt to pass it off as your own.

What blocking can and cannot do

PaperWeight blocks apps using Apple's Screen Time frameworks. Those frameworks are the enforcement — PaperWeight asks iOS to restrict what you have chosen, and iOS carries it out.

That has consequences worth being plain about:

• Blocking is not tamper-proof. iOS provides ways to change or remove restrictions, and a determined person — including you — can undo a session without the key. PaperWeight is a tool for keeping a decision you already made, not a lock that holds against you.
• Behaviour depends on Apple. If a future iOS release changes how these frameworks work, PaperWeight's behaviour changes with it.
• A timed session ends on its own when its timer expires, whether or not a key is ever scanned.

Keys are your responsibility

The point of a physical key is that you have to go and get it. That means you can put it somewhere you cannot reach, or lose it.

If a key is lost or unreachable, the ways out of a session are: wait for a timed session to expire, use emergency unlock if you have set one up, or use the options iOS itself provides for managing Screen Time restrictions. We cannot recover a key or end a session for you — there is no server, no account, and no copy of your key anywhere we can reach.

Please think about this before starting a manual session and putting the only key somewhere genuinely inaccessible.

Not a safety device

Do not rely on PaperWeight in an emergency. It is a focus tool, not a safety system. Do not use it in any situation where being unable to reach an app quickly could cause harm, and do not use it as a substitute for medical, psychological or addiction treatment.

iCloud

If you leave iCloud sync on, your data syncs through your own Apple Account. Apple's services are outside our control, and their availability, behaviour and terms are Apple's, not ours.

No warranty

PaperWeight is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that blocking will work in every circumstance on every device.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of PaperWeight — including missed communications, missed commitments, or being unable to access a blocked app when you wanted to. You are responsible for what you choose to block and for how you store your keys.

Changes

These terms may change. When they do, the date at the top of this page changes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.
